Combating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

25 Years of Advocacy and Awareness

For over 25 years, the Kombo Sillah Association (KSA) has worked tirelessly to challenge and eliminate the harmful practice of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). As a community-driven organisation, KSA continues to play a leading role in advocacy, education, and grassroots mobilisation.

Why We Say No to FGM

FGM is not a rite of passage - it is a violation of human rights. It can cause severe physical and psychological harm, impact reproductive health, and diminish the futures of girls and women.

Through awareness campaigns, KSA aims to:

  • Educate families on the dangers and long-term consequences of FGM.

  • Empower women and girls with knowledge about their rights and bodily autonomy.

  • Support open, intergenerational dialogue within families and communities.

  • Promote laws and policies that protect girls from being subjected to FGM.

  • Equip educators, religious leaders, and health workers to be advocates for change.

Our Impact Over the Years

Since its founding, KSA has:

  • Hosted dozens of workshops, forums, and educational events across the UK and The Gambia.

  • Partnered with grassroots and international organisations to train youth ambassadors, healthcare workers, and educators.

  • Helped shift attitudes within diaspora communities through culturally sensitive outreach.

  • Provided support to survivors and whistleblowers, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.

  • Played a role in broader campaigns contributing to declining FGM rates in regions where intervention is strongest.
