A Spectacular Celebration of Gambian Heritage, Music and Community Spirit
The Kombo Sillah Association (KSA) once again demonstrated the strength of community, culture and unity as it successfully hosted its much-anticipated 2026 Annual Cultural Weekend Celebration, attracting participants and visitors from across England, Wales and Scotland.
The two-day event, which has become one of the highlights of the Gambian community calendar, began on Friday evening at the Malcolm X Community Centre in St Paul's, Bristol, before culminating in a vibrant Family Fun Day at Canford Park the following day.

Opening the evening was the electrifying drumming sensation Digi Mabali, whose powerful rhythms immediately set the tone and transported guests into an atmosphere of authentic African cultural celebration. His captivating performance provided the perfect backdrop for a showcase by the KSA Youth Team, whose cultural performances earned widespread praise from the packed audience.
The young performers delivered what many attendees described as a masterclass in cultural entertainment, demonstrating the association's continuing success in preserving and passing down Gambian traditions to future generations.
A major highlight of the evening came with the appearance of Jally Naya, one of The Gambia's most celebrated music sensations.
In what many described as a historic milestone, Jally Naya performed before a full-capacity audience, marking what is believed to be the first appearance of the artist at a KSA event during the association's 26-year history.
The audience responded enthusiastically, singing along to his most popular songs with remarkable passion and energy. Throughout the performance, the crowd's participation created an atmosphere that resembled a giant live choir, with audience members serving almost as backing vocalists to the Gambian star.
As anticipation reached its peak, the stage was set for the legendary Jaliba Kuyateh, affectionately known across The Gambia and Africa as the "King of Kora."
The iconic musician brought the evening to a magnificent close with a collection of beloved classics that had fans singing, dancing and celebrating late into the night.
Jaliba's commanding stage presence and timeless music once again proved why he remains one of Africa's most enduring and respected cultural ambassadors.
Supporting the headline performers throughout the evening was renowned entertainer DJ Lamin France, who expertly kept the energy flowing and ensured a seamless musical experience for attendees.
Organisers paid special tribute to the KSA Youth Team, whose dedication and creativity transformed the Malcolm X Community Centre into a spectacular cultural venue.

Digi Mabali once again thrilled attendees with spontaneous live drumming performances, creating an interactive atmosphere that saw many members of the audience joining in the dancing and celebrations.
Both the Cultural Night and Family Fun Day were expertly hosted by the charismatic Yahya Samori "Man with GOD" Touray, whose engaging presence, humour and professionalism kept audiences entertained and informed throughout the celebrations.
One of the most popular attractions of the family day was the free face-painting session, which delighted children throughout the afternoon.
Parents praised the activity, which gave younger attendees an opportunity to fully participate in the festivities while creating lasting memories of the event.
