Kombo Sillah Association Celebrates Gambia’s 60th Independence with Vibrant Youth-Led Event

The Kombo Sillah Association (KSA) commemorated The Gambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary with a powerful and inspiring youth-led event held at The Pickle Factory in Bristol. The gathering, which took place on Saturday, February 15th, brought together members of the Gambian diaspora for an evening of reflection, empowerment, and celebration.

The event centered around a youth-led lecture, symbolizing the association’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders. KSA stalwarts Lamin I.S. Manjang and Chairperson Bakary Touray delivered impactful presentations that resonated deeply with the audience.
Lamin I.S. Manjang captivated attendees with an insightful talk on the importance of healthy parent-child relationships. His message underscored how strong family bonds shape the future of young people and society at large, sparking meaningful dialogue among the diverse crowd.

Adding an official touch to the event, Deputy High Commissioner Suntou Touray and Financial Attaché Ousman Jarjue represented the Gambian High Commission as honoured guests. Mr. Touray energized the audience with a compelling address on the vital role of the Gambian diaspora in national development. His interactive approach and call for unity struck a chord, particularly among the youth.
Chairperson Bakary Touray followed with a passionate reflection on the value of volunteering. Emphasizing its role in personal growth and community advancement, he inspired attendees to embrace selfless service as a way of life and a path to national progress.

The evening was expertly emceed by KSA Vice Chairperson Bakoto Jobe, whose energy kept the event flowing with enthusiasm. Sheriff Manjang offered opening prayers, grounding the occasion in spiritual reflection and unity.
The celebration culminated in an awards ceremony, with prizes generously donated by the Gambia High Commission. These tokens of recognition highlighted the achievements and participation of young people and contributors throughout the evening.
